We have a use case where we need to report on several metadata fields.
If we add all of them in the same report, the query times out. Our idea was to create individual reports for each field and then via API extract the data and merge it.
Another solution would be not to use so many metadata. We decided to keep different metadatas because it will help the user that needs to assign metadata to their page. The assignment becomes user friendly, instead of one metadata with 100 values, we have divided them in subcategories to facilitate the assignment.
